An instrument from the International Arctic Buoy Programme (IABP) floats in the Beaufort Sea after deployment by U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20), Aug. 15, 2023. The IABP focuses on creating a network of drifting buoys in the Arctic Ocean to collect real-time oceanographic and meteorological data. The partnership between the U.S. Coast Guard and science is critical to these endeavors, as are the unique capabilities of Healy and the skill of its crew.
