Media Advisory – Governor General to attend National Remembrance Day Ceremony
OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 9, 2022 /CNW/ – Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mr. Whit Fraser, will attend the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
Their Excellencies will be joined by this year’s National Silver Cross Mother, Mrs. Candy Greff, of Lacombe, Alberta. Mrs. Greff’s son, Master Corporal Byron Greff, died in Afghanistan on October 29, 2011. He was riding inside an armoured NATO bus when a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-filled car, which impacted the bus. MCpl Greff was the last Canadian soldier to lose his life in Afghanistan. Mrs. Greff will place a wreath on behalf of all Canadian mothers who have lost a child in military service to Canada.
