DVIDS – News – Team Ramstein hosts STEM day for KMC, German students
The 86th Airlift Wing hosted an annual STEM career day for Department of Defense Education Activity and German students at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, March 26, 2025.
The 86th Airlift Wing invited German students to the science, technology, engineering, and math expo for the first time, allowing more than 1,200 U.S. and German students to explore stations set up by units from across the Kaiserslautern Military Community to showcase unique skills and practices used to support mission readiness.
The displays included static electric boards, bomb suits and robotic platforms from the 786th Civil Engineer Squadron, K9 units and night vision goggles from the 86th Security Forces Squadron along with various other exhibits demonstrating the capabilities and expertise that are essential to military operations.
“I hope the students understand everything showcased today has a part to play in the mission,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Cinthia Elizondo, 37th Airlift Squadron C-130J Super Hercules pilot. “Everything they see here gives them a firsthand look at potential career paths they might want to pursue.”
Another station featured the 86th Security Forces Squadron, demonstrating close-combat techniques and self-defense tactics. At this station, an Airman wore a form-fitting protective suit designed for defensive tactical training while students took turns hitting them with batons.
“This year we also showcased CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training, engineering, fire fighting practices, and aeromedical evacuation procedures from within a C-130J Super Hercules,” Elizondo said. “We look forward to being able to grow the event to include more of the public, more schools, and to foster learning for more students in the community.”
The annual STEM career day highlighted diverse career opportunities within the Air Force, while reinforcing the importance of each role in a unified force. By including German students, the Global Gateway at Ramstein AB was able to inspire a future workforce ready to tackle global challenges.
