DVIDS – News – COMACC takes a personal look into Beale’s high-altitude reconnaissance capabilities
Beale Air Force Base, Cal — Gen. Mark D. Kelly, commander of Air Combat Command, visited the 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California on Dec. 5-6.
During the visit, Kelly explored areas of opportunity for base enhancement to improve mission effectiveness, as well gained insight into the training and maintenance capabilities for the U-2 Dragon Lady pilots, which included a ride in a U-2 chase car.
He also visited various squadrons throughout the wing to recognize top-performing Recce Town Airmen. Beale’s goal during this visit was to showcase the 9th Reconnaissance Wing’s strategic importance as the Air Force’s premier reconnaissance wing, and their ability to train and project unrivaled combat power and reconnaissance.
“It’s always a pleasure to meet and recognize so many outstanding performers, but also just to tell our Airmen they are relevant, valued, and loved members of our high-performing team,” said Kelly.
Recce Town showcased their role in the ACC’s ability to accelerate change through innovative missions such as the Common Mission Control Center, Air Force Combat Ammunition Center, ACC Federal Laboratory, and the 548th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group. Kelly also got a look at the U.S. Space Force’s 7th Space Warning Squadron’s ability to respond to strategic adversaries in real time.
“The 9th Reconnaissance Wing ensures the delivery of high-altitude reconnaissance to combatant commanders worldwide,” said Colonel Geoffrey Church, 9th Reconnaissance Wing commander. “General Kelly’s visit allows us to demonstrate how we are at the forefront in providing top-tier reconnaissance as well as explore opportunities for further innovation”.
Kelly’s visit has provided insight into the direction Beale’s innovation will take as it continues to provide reconnaissance and combat power for our nation.
