The “dog tags” of Spc. Nathaniel Jefferson hang on the Soldier’s memorial after be ing placed there by his first sergeant, 1st Sgt. (ret.) Rachel Gladysz. Spc. Jefferson’s unit, the Illinois Army National Guard’s 710th Medical Company Area Support, held a memorial for him at the unit’s readiness center in Crestwood, Illinois, on Nov. 19. Spc. Jefferson died on Aug. 11 after completing the Army Combat Fitness Test while attending the Basic Leader Course on Camp Shelby, Miss.
