A member from the reconnaissance battalion, Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade, provides front security for U.S. Marines with the maritime raid force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, during a subject matter expert exchange on patrolling techniques at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 15, 2023, during Iron Fist 23. The 31st MEU and ARDB conducted the bilateral exchange to strengthen operations and techniques essential to supporting our allies and partners throughout the first island chain. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japan Ground Self Defense Force, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
