U.S. Marines, Sailors, civilians with Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic, Marine Forces Command, Marine Forces Northern Command and French military personnel, conduct a remembrance ceremony for the Beirut Lebanon bombing at Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads, Virginia, Oct. 23, 2023. Forty years ago, in 1983, the lives of 220 U.S. Marines, 18 U.S. Navy Sailors, three U.S. Army Soldiers, and 58 French paratroopers were lost when terrorists attacked the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.
